While it was important to the client that they maintain some semblance of their legacy wordmark, I was given carte blanche to re-interpret who Maitland-Smith is at its core. I arrived at a simple but impactful brand system: a hand-tooled custom wordmark that borrowed serif sensibilities from the original logo, a “heritage crest”, and a brand seal.

For almost fifty years, Maitland-Smith has been enchanting the interior design-saavy with its exquisite and unique decorative accessories, lighting and furniture. Known for elegant oddities like their iconic hand-cast bronze monkey lamps, Maitland-Smith has become a fabled leader in home-decor outfitters and they were ready for a brand refresh.
